Big Roman Week 2015

Antoninus pius

Seventh Big Roman Week starts on 19 September 2015

The 2015 Big Roman Week kicks off on Saturday 19 September and runs until Sunday 27 September.

Roman Week coincides with the birthday of Emperor Antoninus Pius who was born 19 September 86 AD.

Emperor Antoninus Pius was responsible for the construction of the Antonine Wall. It runs from Bo’ness in the east to Old Kilpatrick in the west.

The turf-based Antonine Wall was awarded UNESCO World Heritage Site status in 2008.

This year there will be events across the Falkirk area in Bonnybridge, Polmont, Larbert, Falkirk, Grangemouth and Bo’ness.

As part of Big Roman Week, an Italian Night Meal has been organised in the Corbie Inn.

There is walks, talks, family events, film shows, arts and library activities! All have been lined up to help local people explore their Roman roots and get a better understanding of local history.

You can enjoy a three-course Italian meal for just £15 a head.

Included will be the official unveiling of the Corbie’s own Roman replica – with a short talk by archaeologist Geoff Bailey

There will also be a prize raffle for organisers The Friends of Kinneil who have joined forces with Falkirk Community Trust, Falkirk Council and others to run the festival.

To book telephone the Corbie Inn on 01506 825307. But, don't hang about as tickets are limited and last time it was a sell-out!

There is a full list of events on the Big Roman Week website here.

Many events are free of charge, but check listings for full information.
